Verbeke Foundation
Residency Kemzeke, Belgium

Verbeke Foundation

Founded by art collectors Geert Verbeke and Carla Verbeke-Lens, the Verbeke Foundation is a private art site which opened its doors to the general public in June 2007 in the village of Kemzeke, Belgium. As ‘a refuge’ for arts, the foundation holds a collection of modern and contemporary art and also offers possibilities for emerging as well as less renowned artists.

The artist-in-residence program at the Verbeke Foundation offers established and emerging artists the opportunity to create works in situ. The residencies are self-directed and are meant for production of new artworks and exhibitions.

Artists-in-residence are selected on the basis of their applications. The Verbeke Foundation expresses special interest in proposals for artworks that attempt to introduce innovations and are in line with the foundation’s experimental spirit.

There is no strict deadline to the call for entries. Artists are welcome to submit the applications throughout the entire year.

The foundation provides on-site accommodation, full board, and access to the workshop so that artists can fully dedicate themselves to art projects.

The application should include the following documents in pdf format:

  • portfolio of 5-10 images with short descriptions of your recent work (please add title, year, size, medium and mention if group work),
  • artist statement describing and contextualizing your art practice,
  • resume including details of past exhibitions and publications (max. 2 pages),
  • project proposal including description, sketches and/or visualizations as well as your expectations of the residency.
